Louis Le Brocquy 1916 – 2012
Some work from the late self-thought Irish Artist Louis Le Brocquy who passed away this week at the age of 95. His career spanned seven decades, working in various styles and media as his career developed. Louis Le Brocquy gained international recognition from his abstract portrait heads of Irish poets WB Yeats and James Joyce and his friends Samuel Becket, Francis Bacon, Seamus Heaney and Bono. One of my favorite paintings in the National Gallery, Dublin is ‘A Family’ (pictured above) which was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1956 with a slight nod to Manet’s Olympia.
Incredible work. Hitting the Love button.
