I just came across this great documentary today. Made four years ago by Irish Film maker Paddy Cahill about the Desmond Rea O’Kelly designed Liberty Hall office building in Dublin with contributions from Shane O’Toole, Ellen Rowley, Des Geraghty and Theo Dorgan. For many years Liberty Hall was the tallest building in Ireland, created with the collective investment of working class through it’s unions. The first organization in Ireland to make a statement of progress and modernity with it’s architectural presence in the city. It’s the first time I’ve seen images of the building before it was ruined with the insertion of reflective glass and pasting putty over the mosaic tiles after the bombing in the 1972 by a UVF car bomb. Hopefully it’ll be renovated back to it’s original elegance soon.
