Elisa Strozyk - woodentextile - surface and surfaceTriangulated timber blankets from German designer Elisa Strozyk. I’m not sure how comfortable these would be but they look pretty cool. They are made by bonding thin lazer cut timber pieces to fabric, bending in different ways depending on the pattern. Elisa has used this triangulation principle on her designs for carpets, wallpaper, furniture and a  collaboration with fashion designer Maria Bonita.

Jon Fox - surface and surfaceHypnotic paintings from UK born, Mirepoix, south France based Artist Jon Fox.  His work is part isometric projection part whirling triangulation, infused with mesmerising blocks of colour and dreamlike Japanese imagery.

“On a voyage to the centre of the self, through scenes of fragmented apparitions..with the aim to try and discover the original source of these thoughts.. I guess to try and find the source of crea-tion (inside myself) where ideas are invented, decisions are weighed up, choices are made..where thought and emotion become the trigger for movement and put into action. I wanted to find out who gives the orders? Who’s in control?…who is really the master of this inner universe?”

Jon Fox recently took part in the Pictoplasma Character Walk in Berlin with fellow Bristol artist Dan Arnold during the week.  Their piece was in a space near Alexandreplatz which totally by chance I happened to see them paint while I stumbled back to my hotel one night. Bruce Davidson - Subway - Surface and SurfaceI went to see the Arnold Newman exhibition at the C/O in Berlin last weekend.  It was pretty mind-blowing to see what he achieved but what I didn’t expect to see was the Bruce Davidson ‘Subway’ exhibition that was on in the gym room.  Bloody great urban photography.  Bruce immersed himself in the ‘raging, rattling hustle and bustle’ of the subway system in New York during the 1980s, documenting the passengers in this filthy, graffiti ridden melting-pot, photographing lovers, musicians, homeless people, tourists and business people.

“When you are in the Subway, what is beautiful appears bestial and what is bestial appears beautiful.” Bruce Davidson

The exhibition marks the 25th year since the first publication of Bruce Davidson’s ‘Subway’ and is one show until the 20th of May 2012.  If you’re in Berlin definitely recommend seeing this.  ‘The Art and Press’ over in Martin Gropius Bau is worth checking out to if you’re in the neighborhood.
