I saw this video over on the vimeo staff picks, great place to find the best random films you’ve never seen. The film by Benjamin Ducroz was made for the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival using 1050 individual a0 sized frames with long exposure photography.
“points in space presents melbournes cbd’s cycles of repetition by responding to the flow of traffic at key intersections. This movement is present in each city around the world. the work presents how a city environment is controlled through organised systems. scenarios which may look like elements in chaos, work in harmony.”
You can also watch the making of Point in Space below.
Black and White photography of Burning Man from Chinese / American Artist Peikwen Cheng. These photos were exhibited as ‘Talents 26’ at the C/O Berlin back in March. I’ve been to Burning Man a few times and these really do it justice. If you ever get a chance to go; jump on it, 24 hours of amazement for a whole week. Although expect to see a lot less international visiter now that they have introduced a new lottery system for tickets which will make it impossible for everyone in a group to go. You can read the New York Times piece here. Peikwen’s possibly Bruce Davidson Subway influenced photography project based around the 22 bus in LA ‘Through the eyes of the 22’ can be seen here.
New work from Irish Artist Conor Harrington. These 3 paintings were done in conjunction with the 13th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
“In a way, I’ve always thought Belfast was the last place I could paint. They have such a strong tradition of sectarian murals depicting political and historical scenes from both an Irish Nationalist and British Loyalist agenda and although my work has vastly different intentions, my imagery could be perceived as being closer to 1 side of that political divide.”
You can find more info on the 13th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival here. Plenty more amazing work from Conor Harrington on his blog here or on our previous post here.
OFFSET, Dublin’s creative festival, returns to the spectacular Grand Canal Theatre next March 9/10/11 2012. With 25 leading creative lights on the main stage, a second room for debates and discussion, interviews and lots more surprises planned.
