LA
Kent Williams
Loving these paintings from LA based Artist Kent Williams. His book Eklektikos featuring paintings from 2007 – 2011 is available here. Check out Kent’s wonderful blog where he show loads of his sketching work and the process of his paintings.
Nick Stern – You are not Banksy
Re-enactments of Banksy street art by LA based British photographer Nick Stern. Soon to be available in a book with support from Kickstarter funding.
Sonny Kay
Mad Photoshop skills from LA based visual artist and musician Sonny Kay. These are all examples of the Album Art he’s been doing over the years. Sonny Kay also did the art work for ‘Street Meat’ by Dublin based band No Spill Blood (that one’s at the bottom of the end of this post). Shed loads more mind bending stuff on his site below.
Scott Belcastro
Pared back colour field paintings with surreal silhouettes by American Artist Scott Belcastro. Scott will be exhibiting a new collection of work at ‘The Gallery’ in Venice, LA. The show will be opening Saturday 20th October, curated by Stephanie Chefas. Some of Scott Belcastro’s prints are available here.
Alex Schaefer – Burning Protest
Burning Protest paintings by American Artist Alex Schaefer. Possibly influenced by Ed Ruscha’s ‘The Los Angeles County Museum on Fire’ but probably just by anger and frustration. Alex is represented by the Charlie James Gallery in LA.
Binary & the Brain
Personal and Charity Art Print Posters by London and Los Angeles based Illustrators / Designers Binary & The Brain. Some of the Posters list all the bones in the body, all and mammals of the British Isles and the 38 of the coast’s most at-risk animals. The one I really like is ‘The Birds’ print, illustrating the 52 UK birds on the endangered red list and reminds me a little of Kai and Sunny’s ‘Migration East’ print for ghostsofgonebirds.com last year. Lots more graphic design and illustration on Binary & The Brain’s site below or you can purchase some of their prints on Sociey6.com
Femme Fatale Exhibition – Cella Gallery, LA
Some really nice work in “Femme Fatale” exhibition at the Cella Gallery, Los Angeles running until March 17th.
“Gathers some of the most powerful contemporary artists whose inherent aesthetic is heavily influenced by the beauty of the female figure. The exhibition explores how individual perceptions of feminine allure can be expressed through each artist’s specific genre. Expect to be seduced, ensnared and dangerously dazzled as though in the crosshairs of a femme fatale herself.”
All work from the exhibition is available to view here on their tumblr. Artists include: Aaron Nagel, Apricot Mantle, Anna Chung, Aunia Kahn, Casey Weldon, Cate Rangel, Charles Ketcham, Chris Peters, Christopher Umana, Cristina Paulos, Chrystal Chan, David Bray, Dave MacDowell, Delphia, Douglas Alvarez, Edith Lebeau, Gail Potocki, Jason Rudulph Pena, JAW Cooper, Jeff Ramirez, Jessica Ward, JoKa, Jose Carabes, Ken Garduno, Korin Faught, Kris Moore, L.Croskey, Lily Mae Martin, Linnea Strid, Morgan Slade, Nicole Bruckman, Nom Kinnear King, Paul Chatem, Sara Haase, Sarah Folkman, Stella Im Hultberg, Ted von Heiland and THH70.
