Really great short film by Matan Rochlitz & Ivo Gormley interviewing runners throughout the year in Victoria park, Hackney. Heavy breathing and insightful thoughts.
Illustrations from Cat O’Neil’s new limited edition graphic novel ‘Returning Home’. An exhibition of her work runs until the 16th August at the Coningsby Gallery in London. www.catoneil.com
Paintings from Emma Richardson who also moonlights as bass player and vocalist with ‘Band of Skulls’. She has a solo exhibition at The Outsiders, London running until the end of the March.
Illustrations from French born London based Graphic Designer Jean Jullien. He also makes films with his brother under the moniker of jullien brothers.
I went to see Martin Creed’s solo exhibition ‘What’s the point of it?’ at the Hayward gallery in the Southbank Centre yesterday. A ford focus coming to life, a huge spinning ‘Mothers’ sign, objects of different sizes stacked on top of each other, half a room filled with white balloons, a beautiful view of Big Ben & london eye obscured by a giant film screen showing a man getting and loosing an erection. Don’t go expecting high brow art like the woman who felt compelled to tell me with disgust how she couldn’t understand how he get’s away with it all. It’s art that really doesn’t take itself seriously. Martin Creed’s ‘What’s the Point of it?’ will make you laugh, squirm and possibly gag but it’s definitely entertaining and it runs from 29 January until 27 April at the Hayward Gallery, London.
Moving balloon sculpture ‘Space Replay’ by Francesco Tacchini which records it’s surroundings and replays them with a delay. Very eery video making its way around London. This project is a collaboration with Julinka Ebhardt and Will Yates-Johnson from Design Products.
Some recent paintings from London based Irish Artist Chloe Early. Chloe has a solo exhibition entitled ‘Suspended’ opening at The Outsiders Gallery on the 3rd April.
Masses of stepped flemish and mesh bond brick work from Irish Architects O’Donnell + Tuomey at the new London School of Economic Student Centre. I had a chance to visit the site during construction in November, interiors seemed a little dark behind the perforated brick but the stairs and level changing sequences were impressive, particularly the poured concrete spiral on the top floors named the “baby elephant”. Photographs by Dennis Gilbert.
I probably spent about an hour on Matt Hass’s site yesterday looking through his photo sets. Some seriously skillful color matching and clever framing. I’ve chosen just a few for this post, most of them noir and somewhat gritty images of in between moments.
