arabella proffer - surface and surface

Surreal Renaissance influenced portraiture with a hint of Punk from American painter, designer, and co-founder of the indie label Elephant Stone Records Arabella Proffer.

“Her loose narrative themes revolve around a fascination with punk rock, aristocrats, Renaissance fashions, aging socialites, pre-code cinema, gothic divas, medical history, and rock ‘n’ roll groupies.”

Arabella is fascinated with the lives of eccentric old socialites, actresses and nobility and fabricates background stories to most of here self-initiated work.  Arabella Proffer’s new book The National Portrait Gallery of Kessa: The Art of Arabella Proffer is available through amazon and she will be exhibiting some of her work at “WASTED!: The Great American Pastime” at WWA Gallery in Culver City, Los Angeles curated by David MacDowel.
